The American Dominique

America's Oldest Breed of Livestock

Home

The American Dominique has a rich and exciting history. From humble beginnings on the dung heaps of the Colonists the Dominique survived to become the very symbol of durability, productivity and self-reliance. In today’s modern era it is fitting that this American icon continues to attract interest. Much of the information on various web sites is ambiguous, misleading or simply rewrites of my original documents, therefore I am making these pages available to those seeking information. If you are searching for stock, please do not contact me as I have not been the secretary of the Dominique Club of America for several years.  Check the Contact and Sources page for contact information. Is there something you’d like to see on the website?  Go to the Who Are We page and send an email with your ideas and comments.

Javas and Dominiques are good breeds, but it seems they are destine to sink into oblivion, a fact deeply regretted by men now grown gray in the work of building up the money-making breeds of American fowls.   – from Wickstrum’s Book of Poultry (1910)

Renee Gosselin (September 3, 2017 wrote on the Dominique Club Facebook site:

“I just want to say “Thank you” to everyone involved with the Dominique club and breed. I started with Dom’s a few years ago due to loving their history. I now have Dom’s, Java, Dorkings and a few other breeds. Dominique’s continue to be my favorite not only because of the positive qualities of the bird but also due to the helpful and educational personalities of the members of the Dominique Club. I have not encountered another Club that comes close to promoting, educating and continuously strives for better birds like the Dominique Club does. Please know that all the work you do as far as getting the new website up and running as well as making such books as “Interpreting the Dominique Standard” available is very much appreciated!

So thank you all! I am proud to be a Dominique member because of you!”

Even though this is my personal site I work closely with the club and believe firmly that our founding members had it right.  Help the members, share information and have a good time along the way!
